On the eve of Goa Statehood Day, Health insurance scheme in Goa has been launched. The name of the scheme is “Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana”. This scheme is valid for entire population of Goa state. It is however should be noted that benefits will be given to Goa residents who are living in the state for five or more years. This scheme will offer Health cover. This scheme can also be said as Goa Government’s Health Insurance scheme.
The aim of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the residents (through cover) during the medical emergency. Goa Government is focusing on the better health and well being of the residents through this scheme. The aim of writing this article is to provide complete details regarding this scheme and help all the interested residents to enroll and receive benefits.

Eligibility – Before getting into the details, applicants must know all about the eligibility criteria. Here are the details –
- Any resident of Goa (Male, Female) who has been living in the state for more than 5 years is eligible to enroll.
- Family of the applicant automatically gets eligible.
Clarification – The family will include – His/Her Spouse, unmarried children, Dependent parents and Inlaws (Incase eligible Family person is female)
Note – Please note that the Central/State Government employees(and their families) which are already covered under the govt. medical reimbursement are not eligible to apply
No matter which type of insurance scheme it is, governmental or private, the most important aspect is the insurance cover. All people who are interested in this Goa Govt. Insurance scheme are hereby informed that the cover depends on the number of family members.
Deen Dyal Swasthya Seva Yojana(DDSSY) offers –
- Insurance Cover of Rs. 2.5 per annum for a family of three or less members
- Insurance Cover of Rs. 4 Lakhs per annum for a family of four or more members
Note – The benefits of the insurance can be availed individually or collectively by the family members. It means that the insurance cover amount can be used either by single person or whole family at the time of need.
Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana – Required Documents
Aadhaar Card/ Enrollment Acknowledgement Slip of every family member above age of 5 years
Note – Enrollment acknowledgement slip is given when you apply for aadhaar card. So, if your aadhaar card is not prepared yet, this slip can be provided
Residence proof of the eligible person. Following documents can be accepted as proof of residence –
- Residence Certificate
- Voter ID
- Driving License
Ration Card to Define the family
If ration card is not available, following documents can be attached –
- For Spouse – Marriage Certificate
- For Dependent Child – Birth or School Leaving Certificate
- For Dependent Parents – A declaration stating that the parents/inlaws are not employed should be submitted
Caste Certificates / Disability Certificate
- OBC Applicants need to provide the caste certificate which is issued by deputy collector along with the income certificate
- SC/ST Applicants need to submit the Caste certificate issued by Directorate of Tribal Welfare/Deputy Collector
- Differently abled Eligible person need to submit the Disability certificate issued by medical board
Enrolling for DDSSY – Deen Dayal Swasthaya Seva Yojana Registration
Many applicants have confusion regarding enrollment, they are not sure if you have to apply online or is there any other way.
Government has set up enrollment centers. Applicants can visit the nearest the enrollment centers for registration.
Applicants need to pay the registration charges also. Here are the details –
- For a family of 3 or less – Rs. 200
- For a family of 4 or above – Rs. 300
- Renewal charges are Rs. 100
Note – A concession of 50% will be offered to OBC, SC/ST and deferentially abled head of family

DDSSY Smart Card –
After the successful enrollment, applicant will be given smart card. This is known as Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana Smart Card. It will be used for cashless treatment at the empanelled hospitals. So, you have to just visit the eligible hospital at the time of need, they will scan the smart card and required funds will be automatically deducted in cashless manner.
