Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) is the Principal Agency to look after the implementation of the Tamil Nadu Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Under the scheme, the Slum Clearance Board has received the approval worth Rs. 7078.61 crores to construct approximately 2.01 lakh affordable homes in the year 2017-18.
However, Tamil Nadu is the first state to receive an approval worth Rs 8660.06 crore from the central government to construct over 3 Lakhs housing units in the state in the month of May this year.

There are four components to the scheme of which three are covered by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board in the initial stage. The Tamil Nadu Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will benefit those living in the slums areas in and around cities. Moreover, the economically backward class and those working in the unorganized sectors across the states will be benefited from the scheme.

- Those who do not have their own Pucca house in his or her name anywhere in the country can apply for the housing unit.
- Those married couples, who do not have their own home can seek a single subsidy for either of the spouses under the scheme
- Those who are not beneficiary of any housing scheme operated by the central government in any part of India before can apply.
